2) Larva: come mai avete scelto questo monicker? In italiano "Larva" si associa al verme…
Sì, è un verme, ad uno stadio molto prematuro. Questa "larva" è una piccola e disgustosa creatura, ed è destinata a diventare una mosca, e anche la mosca è una creatura disgustosa, ma la sua costituzione è perfetta, e ha un ruolo essenziale nell'ecosistema. Noi ci vediamo così, potremmo essere disgustosi, vergognosi e minuscoli, ma un giorno diventeremo quello che eravamo destinati a diventare, e saremmo perfetti, se solo non fossimo ancora disgustosi per chiunque altro.
3) Ho visto i video ("Lepra" e "Casa de Alfileres") su YouTube. Suonate una forma moderna di Metal, qualcosa tra il Metalcore melodico e il Nu Metal. Penso che potreste piacere ai fans dei
Devildriver. Perché avete scelto di etichettare il vostro sound
come "Shock Rock"?
Nei nostri primi giorni noi definivamo il gruppo come un "visual proyect" perché eravamo sempre concentrati sui vestiti, il design e l'immagine, usavamo differenti elementi on stage, come vestiti di scena, guardaroba, video e multimedia, performance, elementi teatrali. Poi non abbiamo più usato le cose più complicate perché
come band Metal indipendente, sarebbe stato troppo dispendioso e costoso promuovere questo tipo di shows. Siamo stati influenzati da band come Kiss, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, i nostri album sono "rock opere concettuali" questo è perché abbiamo pensato che il termine "shock metal" ci descrivesse meglio, noi siamo più influenzati dal Metal, Nu Metal, Melodic Death Metal, ma penso che le etichette musicali siano limitative per il nostro sperimentare e creare una nuova e interessante musica. Ci piace mixare ogni genere di musica, Rock, Punk, Industrial, Electronic, Gothic, Pop… Personalmente credo che essere un musicista sia essere sulla musica, non sulle etichette e sui generi.
4) Potete parlarci della biografia della band?
Abbiamo fondato la band nel 2000, come un trio di Grunge-Metal
quando avevamo 16 anni, era una cosa che facevamo dopo la scuola, abbiamo iniziato a suonare live e trovare gente che ci supportava nei testi e nelle nostre performance energetiche. Abbiamo registrato il nostro primo demo "Antisoma" nel 2000, dopo aver rilasciato album, eps e video. La nostra discografia è questa:
"La Exposición Plástica" (lp, 2001), "Anormal" (lp, 2003), Zoótropo (lp, 2008), "Invierno nuclear" (dvd, 2011), "El día de la peste" (lp, 2012), "Música Horrible" (greatest hits lp, 2013), "Máquina Misántropa Magnífica" (lp, 2015), e molti altri singles e eps.
5) E per quanto riguarda gli argomenti affronatati nelle lyrics?
Parliamo di ogni aspetto oscuro e violento della nostra umanità,
odiamo tutto quello che facciamo come umani che che danneggiano gli altri, danneggiano noi stessi o il nostro pianeta,
l'idea di fare musica è quella di liberare noi stessi dai nostri demoni, così è naturale scrivere di questi argomenti, colpa, perversioni, violenza, ira, rabbia, tristezza. Possiamo passare da canzoni leggere e malinconiche a canzoni più veloci e violenti.
La nostra idea è quella di portare questi feeling negativi in superficie e fronteggiarli, per superarli ed essere uomini migliori ogni giorno, combattere la nostra rabbia con la rabbia in modo che evapori.
6) Avete già suonato dal vivo?
Sì, abbiamo suonato senza mai fermarci sin dal 2000 :D
7) Ci sono molte band che vengono dal Messico: Hocico, From the Sunset, Forest and Grief, Ereshkigal, Shamash, Precaria... Ci sono anche band Death/Brutal Metal che suonano una strana forma di
Metal, in sincretismo con la musica Azteca, per esempio Xipe Totec, Amocualli e Son Iok. Puoi suggerirci qualche altro nome? Di recente ho studiato il pantheon messicano. Per esempio Dee come Coatlicue, Mictecacuatl e Dei come Tlaloc o Quetzalcoatl…
Lo so, i nostri antenati avevano una visione molto violenta e bizzarra del mondo, ah ah! Una buona band con molto sound prehispanico sono i Muluc Pax, amiamo il loro sound e concept.
I Balam Akab sono un'altra Death Metal band con quel tipo di sound e immagine. Comunque, dovresti cercare la nostra track "Odio Todo" con Erk Aicrag, la voce degli Hocico ospitato come guest vocalist :D

2) Larva: why did you choose this monicker? In Italian "Larva" means something like worm…
Yes it is a worm, in a very early and young stage. this "larva" is a small disgusting creature, it is destined to become a fly, a fly is a disgusting and worthless creature as well, but its design is perfect and it has an essential role in its ecosystem. Thats how we see ourselves, we may be disgusting, worthless and small creatures, but we will become someday what we were meant to become, and we will be perfect even if we are still disgusting for everyone else.
3) I have seen your videos ("Lepra" and "Casa de Alfileres") on YouTube. You play a modern form of Metal, something among melodic Metalcore and Nu Metal. I think Devildriver's fans can appreciate your sound too.
Why you use the label "Shock Rock"?
In our early days we defined the band as a visual proyect because we were always concerned about our clothing, design and imagery, we have been using different on stage elements throughout our tours like stage scenery, wardrobes, video and multimedia, performatic arts, theatrical elements.. We no longer use the most complicated stuff because as an independent metal act its very difficult and expensive to produce this kind of shows. We were influenced on visual acts like Kiss, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, our albums are conceptual rock operas, thats why we thought the term "shock metal" would describe us better, we are mainly influenced on metal, nu metal, melodic death metal, but I think labels only stop us from experimenting and creating new and interesting music. We like to mix every kind of music we like for LARVA, rock, punk, industrial, electronic, gothic, pop… I personally feel that being a musician is about music, not about labels and genres.
4) Can you speak about the biography of the band? First steps, demos…
We were funded in 2000 as a 3 piece grunge-metal act when we were 16 years old, it was only an after school activity, we started playing venues and touring and we found people who related to our sad lyrics and our energetic performances. We recorded our first demo "Antisoma" en 2000, after that we have been releasing albums, eps, dads and videos completely on our own until now. 5) What about your lyrics? Which are the argoments you like writing?
We talk about every dark and violent aspect of our humanity, we hate everything we do as humans that harm others, harm ourselves or our planet, the whole idea of making music is to free ourselves from our own demons, so it was natural to write about them, guilt, perversions, violence, wrath, anger, sadness. We can go from soft melancholic tracks to very fast and violent ones. Our idea is to bring this negative feelings to the surface and face them, to overcome them and be better humans everyday, fight our anger with anger so it evaporates.
6) Have you already play live?
Yes, we have been playing non stop since 2000 :D
7) There are a lots of bands from Mexico: Hocico, From the Sunset, Forest and Grief, Ereshkigal, Shamash, Precaria... There are also some Death/Brutal Metal bands who play a strange form of Metal, using original Aztec folk music, as intros, for example Xipe Totec, Amocualli or Son Iok. Can you suggest us some others names?
By the way, I have studied something taken from Ancient Pantheon. For example, the Goddesses Coatlicue, Mictecacuatl or Gods Tlaloc, Quetzalcoatl…
I know, our ancestors had a very violent and twisted vision of the world haha! A good band with a lot of prehispanic mexican sounds is Muluc Pax, we love their sound and concept. Balam Akab is another death metal band with mexican prehispanic sounds and imagery.
