1) Ciao e benvenuti! è bello parlare con voi! Presentatevi ai nostri lettori!
Ciao, grazie per l'invito. Mi chiamo Aladdin e sono il chitarrista e uno dei vocalist della band fin da quando c'era Mohammed (tastierista e vocalist) e Khaled come batterista. Noi tre siamo i membri principali della band, abbiamo avuto alcuni musicisti (non fissi, solo per un tempo limitato) in passato per altri strumenti come il basso o la chitarra.
2) Cosa significa il vostro monicker? Perché lo avete scelto?
Orcus: Mohammed e Khaled hanno avuto l'idea di questo nome ed è una citazione di un "demone" mitologico nella mitologia greca, dal momento che possiamo trovare molta demonologia nel Black Metal, hanno pensato che questo nome fosse molto azzeccato con lo stile e gli argomenti trattati dalla band, niente a che vedere con le nostre convinzioni personali, però.

Suonate un Black Metal sinfonico che ho apprezzato molto. Avete dato al tutto un'atmosfera oscura e torbida, sullo stile del primo Black Metal melodico (band come Thy Serpent)... Avevo già parlato di voi e di altre band alcuni mesi fa, parlando della scena Black Metal nei paesi islamici

In quel post, parlavo della "faccia nascosta" dei paesi islamici, cose come la magia sihr, i demoni, gli amuleti berberi, il passato pagano pre-islamico... poche persone conoscono queste cose, qui in Italia!
Come sono le cose in Algeria, parlando di diritti umani, libertà di espressione e via dicendo? Avete avuto problemi con la censura islamica o statale? La gente può ascoltare Black Metal o altra musica pesante, esprimendo liberamente le loro opinioni sull'islam o su altri argomenti? Ci sono ancora problemi?
Io e Akvan, con cui ho parlato mesi fa di Black Metal in Iran (https://intervistemetal.blogspot.com/2018/03/akvan-black-metal-dalliran-intervista.html ) siamo convinti che il Black Metal può essere una grande forza e uno strumento di emancipazione contro l'oppressione.
Cosa pensate del Black Metal? Come lo avete conosciuto e quali sono le vostre band preferite?
Bhè, personalmente la mia canzone preferita, nell'album, è "Screams of agony", ahah! E grazie per aver ascoltato la nostra musica. Parlerò più tardi del nostro album, nella tua prossima domanda. Penso che non esistano paesi islamici, ci sono solo paesi con musulmani che vivono in essi e la quantità di essi cambia da paese a paese. Sono molto stupito che tu abbia parlato di Sihr, la magia, e di amuleti berberi e delle altre cose (eh eh, ma io sono Lunaria! Quindi ho interesse per queste cose... :D)
potrei dire molte cose su questi argomenti e mi piacerebbe sapere cosa conosci di queste cose, in un'altra discussione, e sì, poche persone in Europa conoscono queste cose (eh lo so, io conosco il Sihr e un mucchio di altra roba interessante, ma ahimè, non so guidare l'auto! I casi della vita... Nota di Lunaria)
E per i diritti umani e la libertà di parola in Algeria, queste due cose sono limitate nei paesi in via di sviluppo, come l'Algeria.
La scena metal in Algeria non è perseguitata dall'islam o dallo stato, è sofferente però di una mancanza di lealtà, è ancora considerata uno "stile barbaro" ed è malgiudicata da chi ignora cos'è e da tutti quelli che pensano che tutto quello che ha a che vedere col metal sia inerente solo al satanismo e alla blasfemia. è ancora underground e sta cercando di emergere passo dopo passo, e non possiamo dimenticare che negli ultimi due o tre anni c'è stata molto attività, nella scena metal.
E ancora, siamo lontani dall'essere perseguitati per il nostro suonare metal, avvertiamo solo una mancanza di equità nell'essere paragonati ad altri stili musicali e soffriamo per colpa delle persone ignoranti che gestiscono gli eventi culturali.
Il Black Metal è un'arte eccelsa, è uno stile espressivo, puoi esprimere forti emozioni come la rabbia, l'odio, l'amore. è sempre stato associato al satanismo ma secondo me non ha niente a che vedere con esso perché ho visto e ascoltato della musica che volesse evocare e glorificare i jins (demoni) e puoi vedere con i tuoi propri occhi il significato della blasfemia e del satanismo, non nella scena Black Metal. So che molti musicisti dicono di essere satanisti e cose del genere, ma non credono davvero in Dio o Satana.
Personalmente mi ritengo un musicista e cerco di non relazionare niente di religioso o politico con la musica, esprimo me stesso musicalmente solo quando suono con il mio strumento.
Le mie band preferite sono, al primo posto, Kvist, poi Setherial, gli italiani Evol che ascolto molto spesso e che mi piace molto quello che facevano. Poi adoro i Dimmu Borgir, i Dark Funeral, Naglfar, Darkened Nocturne Slaughtercult. Queste sono le mie preferite, per ora, ah ah.
4) Potete parlarci del vostro album "Salvation for the dark spirits"? Testi, songwriting, la copertina?
Siete ancora attivi, come band?
Gran parte dell'album "Salvation..." è stato composto nel 2008 e registrato nel 2010. Puoi osservare la diversità delle influenze nelle diverse canzoni, principalmente perché noi, come singoli membri della band, abbiamo diverse influenze e abbiamo cercato di comporre uniti; se qualcuno aveva un'idea la esternava e la sviluppavamo tutti insieme, tranne per le lyrics; è solo Mohammed a scriverle. Non posso dire che siamo ancora attivi perché non viviamo nello stesso paese, ma abbiamo registrato un album in Francia un anno fa e stiamo aspettando di distribuirlo. Non sarà sotto il nome di Orcus, però. I membri della band sono gli stessi, ma visto che non abbiamo più fatto niente dal 2013, è meglio dar vita ad un nuovo progetto, con nuove idee ancora più Black Metal rispetto al primo album.
5) Avete suonato anche dal vivo. Puoi raccontarci qualcosa?
Abbiamo fatto alcuni concerti solo in Algeria in diverse città, dal 2008 al 2013. Ogni occasione è stata speciale e mi mancano molto, come eventi.
6) Ti piace la scena Black Metal italiana? Ascolti qualcosa dal mio paese?
Non conosco molto la scena metal italiana... so che ci sono molti festival interessanti e che la scena musicale nel tuo paese è molto attiva. Ci sono alcune band italiane che mi piacciono, come Evol, Ergot, e qualcosa di Heavy\Thrash come i Sabotage. Ritornerò in Italia una seconda volta, perché ho già visto Milano e mi piacerebbe scoprire di più parlando di metal italiano.
7) Puoi parlarci del tuo paese? Qual'è l'aspetto migliore?
L'aspetto migliore sono i paesaggi stupendi e il deserto Sahara, è qualcosa che non puoi vedere altrove, se visiterai l'Algeria un giorno, ti consiglio di vederlo, ma non nel periodo estivo, è preferibile in primavera perché è meno rovente.

Hi thanks for your invitation, my name is Aladdin and I'm the guitarist and one of the vocalists of the band since there is Mohammed the pianist and vocalist too and we have Khaled the drummer. We three are the main members of the band, we had many session musicians in the past for other instruments such as bass or guitar.
2) What is the meaning of your monicker? Why did you chosen this name, Orcus?
Orcus; Mohammed and Khaled came up with idea of this name and is an appelation of a mythologycal "demon" found in the greek mythology, since we can find a lot of demonology in Black Metal music, they thaught, at that time, that this name suited somehow the style and lyrical aspect of the band, nothing to do with our beliefs.
3) I have listened your songs, uploaded on youtube, expecially "Screams of Agony" and "Between Magic and Beauty"
These are your best songs, in my opinion.
You play Symphonic Black Metal and I have appreciated it too much.
You created a very dark and gloom atmosphere, with the touch of the style of the early melodic Black Metal (bands as Thy Serpent)...
I have already spoken about you (and other bands) some months ago, talking about the Black Metal scene in islamic countries.
I have studied some interesting things about "the hidden face" of islamic countries, things such sihr magic, demons, berbers amulets, the pagan pre-islamic past... few people know these things, here in Italy.
How are things, in Algeria, talking about human rights, the freedom of expression and so on? The islamic or State censorship has persecuted you? People can listening Black Metal or some heavy music, can express freely their opionion about islam or other argoments? Or there are still problems?) are convinced that Black Metal can be a strong force and an emancipation instrument against oppression.
What is your point of view about Black Metal? How you came to know it? Which are your favourite bands?
Well personnaly my favorite song in the album is "Screams of agony" haha; and thanks for listening to ou music. Since you have a question about the album I'll talk about it later on. So, you know there is no country such as islamic ones in my opinion, there is countries with muslims living in it and the quantity changes from a country to another. I'm really amazed that you've talked about sihr (magic is just the translation of sihr) and berber amulets and the other things, I can say a lot about these things, and I would like to know what do you know about these kind of things in another discussion maybe and yes, few people know about these things in Europe. And as for human rights and freedom of speech in Algeria, these two are limited even in the developped countries so we are in Algeria. The metal scene in Algeria is far from being persecuted from islam or the state, it is just suffering from unfairness, it is still considered as a barbaric style and it is misjudged by the ones who ignore what it is about and the ones who still think that everything about metal has something to do with satanism and blaspheme. It is still underground and trying to come up to the surface step by step and we can't miss that there is a lot of metal activites these last 2 or 3 years.
And again we are far from being oppressed or persecuted because we play metal, we just have a lack of fairness comparing to other styles of music and we suffer from ignorant people who runs and organise cultural affairs.
Black metal is a fine art, it is a way of expression, you can express strong emotions such as anger, hatred, love. It is always related to satanism but in my opinion it has nothing to do with it because I have seen and listened to the music which jins (demons) are invoked and they are praised and there you can see with your own eyes the meaning of blaspheme and satanism not in a black metal scene. I know that a lot of musicians say that they are satanists and such, but they don't even believe in God or Satan.
Personnally i consider myself as a musician and I try to not relate anything religious or political with music, I express myself only when play with my instrument, I mean musically.
My favorite Black Metal bands are, number one, Kvist; you have Setherial, I used to listen a lot to an italian underground band called Evol and i really liked what they did. Dimmu Borgir for symphonique Black Metal, Dark funeral, Naglfar, Darkened Nocturne Slaughtercult. These ones are in my head for now haha.
4) Can you speak about your album "Salvation for the dark spirits"? About the lyrics, the songwriting, the cover image? Are you still alive and active, as a band?
Most of the album 'salvation...' Was composed in mid 2008 and it was recorded in 2010. As you can observe the diversity of the influences in the different songs, mainly it has to do with the fact that we, the members, have different influences and we used to compose together, if someone came up with an idea he brings it and we developped it together except for the lyrics our pianist Mohammed was and he is still the one who writes the lyrics. I can't say we're active as a band because we don't live in the same country but we've recorded a new album in France one year ago and we're waiting for its release. It's not gonna be under the name of Orcus, the members are the same, but since we didn't do anything since 2013 it's gonna be a new project with new ideas more Black Metal than the first album if we can say that.
5) You have played also live. Can you say something more about this?
We did some live concerts just in Algeria in different towns from 2008 to 2013, every one was special and I really miss those days.
6) Do you like the italian Metal scene? Do you listen something from my country?
I really don't know a lot about the italian metal scene, I know that there are some interesting festivals and the metal scene in your country is active. there are some italian bands that I like such as Evol, Ergot, some heavy thrash as sabotage. I would for sure come back again to Italy, because i've been in Milan once, and discover more about the italian metal world.
7) Can you speak about your country? What is the best aspect of your country?
The best aspect about my country is its beautiful lands and its desert 'sahara' is something that you don't see everywhere, if you'll visite Algeria one day I recommend it to you but not in the summer time, it's preferable in the spring time because it's less hot.
