Manzer (Pictavian Black Metal)

1) Ciao e benvenuti! Presentatevi!

Ciao, amica! Sono Shaxul dei Manzer, un Pictavian-Black Metal power trio. Suono la batteria e mi occupo delle vocals.
 
2) Manzer: che significato ha il vostro monicker?

Durante il Medioevo, la nostra regione, Pictavia, era governata dai Conti. Uno di loro era chiamato Ebalus Manzer (9-10°secolo).
Significa "Ebalus il Bastardo", perchè era un figlio illegittimo! Abbiamo pensato che fosse un nome Rock'n'Roll perfetto per la nostra band.

3) Suonate un Thrash/Black Metal molto infernale e blasfemo. Potete descriverci la vostra storia? Penso che il vostro stile sia perfetto per i fans dei vecchi Venom, Sepultura, Kreator, Sadus e Possessed, Anal Vomit e Morbid Saint. Che ne pensate?

Ci piace definire la nostra musica "Pictavian Black Metal", perchè siamo ispirati sia dal Black Metal anni '80 che dalla nostra regione, la Pictavia; non crediamo di aver inventato un nuovo genere, per niente, ma è il miglior modo per descrivere quello che facciamo.
Negli anni '80, quando è stato suonato il miglior Metal, era normale etichettare "Black Metal" band come i Venom (gli inventori del genere, naturalmente), Bathory, primi Sodom, Mercyful Fate, Sarcofago o Hellhammer.
Purtroppo attualmente se dici "Black Metal", la gente istintivamente pensa al NorseCore, e noi non abbiamo niente a che fare con il Black Metal scandinavo dei '90s.
è divertente vedere che tutti ci etichettano come Black/Thrash, penso che è perchè la gente pensa che non suoniamo "puro" Black Metal perchè non suona come gli Emperor o qualcosa del genere, ahah, così per loro non può essere solo "Black Metal". Oh bhè, non importa. Ma anche se il Thrash è un'influenza per noi, a volte, penso che abbiamo più influenze Heavy Metal e Punk. Penso che hai capito cosa suoniamo, comunque adoro le band che hai menzionato! Per quanto riguarda la nostra biografia, è molto semplice. Ci siamo formati nel 2008, abbiamo rilasciato un demo, alcuni 7"EP's, un full lenght e alcuni live albums. Tutto il materiale può essere ordinato alla mia etichetta, la Legion of Death Records.

4) Su YouTube possiamo sentire le vostre canzoni. Potete descriverci il vostro album? è un concept? Cosa potete dirci sulle lyrics e sulla copertina? Ho visto il resto dei vostri artworks, sono davvero fighi! Forse il mio preferito è "Orgy and profanity", con i vescovi e il papa morti e il caprone con le due ragazze carine al fianco!

Il nostro full-lenght è  "Light of the Wreckers". è il titolo di una canzone, ma non è un concept album. La storia è incentrata su alcuni naufragi, ad opera di pirati che saccheggiano le navi vicino alle scogliere, per impossessarsi dei loro tesori. Posizionano una lampada attorno al collo di un asino, così le navi credono che sia un faro. E anche noi usiamo un asino come mascotte, (ricontrolla i nostri artworks, eheh!), e lo abbiamo chiamato Ebalus! Molte band usano un caprone, noi usiamo un asino, ahah, perchè l'asino pictaviano è tipico della nostra regione, ha capelli lunghi, ed è metallaro! Alcuni pensano che sia un caprone quello che rappresentiamo sulle nostre copertine, e noi amiamo creare confusione!

5) Così, avete già suonato dal vivo! Potete raccontarci qualcosa dal tour in compagnia della Thrash Metal all-Girl band Tormentress? Le ho ascoltate! Sono brave!

Sì, abbiamo suonato all'incirca 60 concerti, finora. Abbiamo suonato due volte con le Tormentress durante il nostro tour in Malesia, a maggio 2013. Sono un gruppo di ragazze possedute dal Metal Old School, e così meritano supporto!
 
6) Parlateci della scena Black del vostro paese. Potete indicarci qualche nome interessante?

Band Black Metal dalla Francia? Bhè, la maggior parte sono modaiole e fasulle.
è una vergogna totale, un circo. Sono dentro a stupidi sotto-generi come il Black "religious", "depressive suicidal", "NS", "Post" e così via. Posso menzionarti solo le band che escono per la mia label: Breizh Occult, Valuatir, Angmar, Quintessence, Ankrismah... Supporto tante band francesi, ma non sono principalmente Black Metal (e non di Parigi, eheh). Mi dispiace se non posso rispondere alla tua domanda, ma devo menzionare i Killers (Dei), Hexecutor, Perversifier, Acarus Sarcopt, Klootzak, PerfectÖ, Goatvermin, Nuclear Abomination, Torture Throne, The Last Tomb, Silver Machine, Desillusion...

7) Prossimi obiettivi?

Il tour in India e Nepal (6 date), a dicembre 2014. Abbiamo registrato nuove canzoni per lo split con Hexecutor e Nightwolf. Stiamo anche lavorando sul nostro secondo album. Siamo incasinati, come l'Inferno! Metal till death!!!

Grazie mille per il sostegno! Abbiamo suonato a Roma e a Firenze, ma sfortunatamente il nostro live a Milano è stato cancellato per via di alcuni allagamenti alla location dove si sarebbe svolto. Un ciao ai nostri amici di SPIDKILZ!!!

1) Hello and welcome here! Let's introduce yourself!

Ciao, amica! ("Hello my friend!") I am Shaxul from MANZER, a Pictavian Black Metal power trio. I play the drums and vocals.

2) Manzer: why have you chosen this monicker? What is the meaning?

During the Middle Ages, our region Pictavia was ruled by Counts. One of them was called Ebalus Manzer (9th - 10th century). It means "Ebalus the Bastard", as he was an illegitimate son! We thought it would be the perfect Rock'n'Roll name for our band.

3) You play a very infernal and blasphemous Thrash/Black Metal. Can you describe your biography and your music style? I think that it's perfect for fans of old Venom, old Sepultura, old Kreator, old Sadus, Possessed, Anal Vomit, Morbid Saint. Are you agree?

We like to say we play "Pictavian Black Metal", as we're both inspired by the Black Metal style from the 80's and our region Pictavia, though we don't claim we have invented a new genre, not at all, this is simply the best way to describe what we do. In the 80's, where the best Metal was made, it was very normal to label as "Black Metal" bands like VENOM (the creators of the genre of course), BATHORY, early SODOM, MERCYFUL FATE, SARCOFAGO or HELLHAMMER. Unfortunately nowadays, if you say "Black Metal", people will instantly think about NorseCore, and we have nothing to do with Scandinavian Black Metal from the 90's. It's funny to see that everybody labels us as Black/Thrash, I think it's because people think we don't play "pure" Black Metal because it doesn't sound like EMPEROR or something haha, so to them it CAN'T be "Black Metal" alone. Oh well, nevermind. But even if Thrash is an influence for us sometimes, I think we have more influences from Heavy Metal and Punk. Though I think you understood what we do pretty well, I worship the bands you mentioned by the way! Now about a biography, well, it's very simple. We were born in 2008, we released a demo, several 7"EP's, a full length album and some live albums. Available releases and merch can be ordered through my label, LEGION OF DEATH Records.

4) On YouTube we can listen your songs. Can you describe your latest album? Is it a concept? What about the lyrics and the cover artwork? I have seen your images artworks, from all your albulms! They are cool! Maybe my fav is "Orgy and profanity", with dead bishops and pope, and the goat with the two pretty girls!

Our full length album is called "Light of the Wreckers". It's the also the title of a song on it but it's not a concept album. The story is that there were wreckers on our coasts, let's say pirates that drew ships on the reefs to steal their treasures. They hanged a light around a donkey's neck so ships thought it was a lighthouse. And we use a donkey as a mascot (check our artworks again hehe), he's called Ebalus! Most bands use goats but we use a donkey haha, simply because the Pictavian donkey is endemic to our region, and it has long hair like a metalhead! Some people still think it's a goat but we like to create some confusion too, you know...

5) So, you have played live! Can you tell us something about your gig with the Thrash All-Girl Metal band Tormentress? I have listened them too, they are great!

Yes, we played around 60 gigs so far. We played twice with TORMENTRESS during our tour in Malaysia, it was in May 2013. They are a bunch of kind girls possessed by old school Metal so they deserve support!

6) Speak about the Black music scene from your country. Can you suggest some names of the most interesting new bands?

Black Metal bands from France? Well, most are trendies and wimps. This is a total shame, a circus. They're all into stupid sub-genres like "religious", "depressive suicidal", "NS", "Post" and so on. I can only mention the Black Metal bands I released on my label : BREIZH OCCULT, VALUATIR, ANGMAR, QUINTESSENCE, ANKRISMAH... I support many French bands but they are mainly not Black Metal (and not from Paris for sure hehe). So I'm sorry if it doesn't really answer to your question but I would like to mention KILLERS (gods), HEXECUTOR, PERVERSIFIER, ACARUS SARCOPT, KLOOTZAK, PERFECTÖ, GOATVERMIN, NUCLEAR ABOMINATION, TORTURE THRONE, THE LAST TOMB, SILVER MACHINE, DESILLUSION...

7) Next goals?

We will tour India and Nepal (6 dates) in December 2014. We've just recorded new songs for splits (with HEXECUTOR and NIGHTWOLF). We are also working on our second full length album. We're always busy like Hell! Metal till death!!!
