Totengeflüster (Symphonic Black Metal dalla Germania)

1) Ciao e benvenuti! Presentatevi!

Narbengrund: Ciao!

5) Avete già suonato live, in Germania? E all'estero?

 1) Hello and welcome here! Let's introduce yourself and your band!

Narbengrund: Hello. I am Narbengrund and I guess one could label me as the singer of our little “creepshow” which is called Totengeflüster…

2) Totengeflüster: why have you chosen this monicker? What is the meaning?

Narbengrund: The word “Totengeflüster” describes the inner voice which so many of us have buried so deeply inside their heads, just because the words of this voice do not fit in this perfect society… but even through tons of cold mental earth one still can hear her… or at least I do…

3) Can you describe your biography and your Black Metal style?

Narbengrund: In the year 2007 Totleben began to write the first songs and shortly after starting he realized, that these bones were in need of some flesh too… and so he decided to ask me, if I would like to be the singer of his new project… In 2010 all of our songs for “Vom Seelensterben” were completed but it took a long time since we could release this record. A few months before the release date (everything was already recorded) Totleben met Schattendorn, a formidable drummer and since Schattendorn adores Black Metal, Totleben came to ask him if he’d like to blast for us…
“Vom Seelensterben” was released in the beginning of 2013, but since we did not have a rehearsal room nor a complete line-up it was impossible for us to perform our songs live.
This circumstance changed last winter… With Rohrschach (bass) and Frevelsaat (guitar) we are finally able to bring darkness and desolation to a stage near you…
Our musical style could described as “Symphonic Black Metal” in the vein of the mid 90s Black Metal bands. We play a melodic yet still aggressive kind of black metal and combine it with classical and/or cinematic elements. We try to combine the cold ugly sound of black metal with the gentle and filigree beauty of classical music.

4) On YouTube we can listen your songs. Can you describe this album? Is it a concept? What about the lyrics and the cover artwork?

Narbengrund: “Vom Seelensterben” is a concept album, all of the lyrics together create a kind of horror story but I don’t want to reveal too much details for those of you who would like to read them… but I’d like to say that although this story is fictive it is very personal and can be transferred to the “real” life. The cover artwork was made by our mastermind Totleben, who nearly did everything apart from the lyrics concerning the album. The artwork inside the booklet is based upon the lyrical story of the album, so everything according to this record fits perfectly into everything else and this is one of the points why I’m that proud of it.

5) Have you already play live, in Germany? Out of Germany?

Narbengrund: Unfortunately we didn’t played yet, neither in Germany nor outside of Germany but we’ll start playing gigs in late august this year. Our debut will be on England’s Beermageddon festival! Afterwards we’ll play a few gigs inside of Germany, but I’ll guess we’ll upload the live-dates soon!

6) Can you speak about the Black/Death scene from your country?

Narbengrund: Well I could but unfortunately just as a fan, since I just know very few black/death bands personally and all of them are coming from Baden-Württemberg (south-west Germany), so It wouldn’t be that representative. Of course there a lot of different styles of black and death metal among the huge amount of german bands but I think german black metal band are not famous for being the fastest, the most brutal or the most cold and grim atmospheres, but for sophisticated and thoughtful music…but this is just my humble opinion.

7) Next goals, about playing or doing something more?

Narbengrund: Ha! Our next goals will be playing live intensively and extensively as well as writing and composing art for our next record. We hopefully can release it during the next year…

8) Ok finish as you like and I hope you can come here, in Italy, and playing for all italian people who love the Black Flame of Metal!

Narbengrund: We would truly love to play in Italy but things aren’t always that easy… I fear you have to wait a bit more for our interpretation of the black flame…
I hope my words could ease the thirst which burned inside of you…
