Finalmente! In una scena dove si parla sempre delle stesse cose, Purvaja invece ha scelto di parlare dell'Esoterismo e dell'Occultismo dall'India, nonché degli antichi miti proprio presi dalla sua terra! Davvero un bravo Artista!
Ecco qui l'intervista, dove ci parla di lui... il Nostro è anche devoto alla Dea Kali, che ha celebrato nell'Ep "Dark Goddess Divine" (impreziosito da una splendida copertina che reca Omaggio alla Bella Dea Madre del Tempo e della Distruzione!), quindi mi ha fatto davvero piacere intervistarlo. Non capita tutti i giorni di trovare persone interessanti concettualmente! E Purvaja lo è senz'altro. Quindi, se anche voi volete sentire qualcosa che vada oltre le solite frasi da "slay the nazarene", Purvaja è davvero un'alternativa molto interessante.

1) Ciao e benvenuto sul mio blog! Presentati ai nostri lettori italiani!
Ciao Lunaria, per prima cosa grazie dell'interesse che hai mostrato per il mio progetto e per avermi dedicato tempo nell'intervista.
Purvaja (che significa "Primordiale") è il mio progetto solista, di Vedic/Black Metal, da Hyderabad, India.
Prendendo varie influenze dal Black Metal e dal Metal Vedico, Purvaja compone musica per riflettere i suoi temi basati sulla Cultura Vedica, la Filosofia Indiana, la Mitologia e la Teologia associata.
2) Purvaja: che significato ha il tuo monicker?
Inoltre, nei tuoi loghi possiamo vedere un tridente, il simbolo "Om" e la svastica. Puoi spiegarci il significato dei simboli che appaiono nei tuoi loghi?
Purvaja significa "Primordiale". Il primo obiettivo di Purvaja è di evocare l'essenza di quello che i nostri antenati ci hanno tramandato, un'eredità che sta lentamente svanendo nell'oblio del mondo moderno. Da qui, il nome che ho scelto per il mio progetto.
Il logo consiste nella parola "Purvaja" scritta nell'antico alfabeto Devanagari. Il tridente, al centro, è chiamato "Trishula"
(il Sacro Tridente rappresenta la Creazione, il Mantenimento e la Distruzione). Sopra al Tridente, possiamo vedere la Luna Crescente, dipinta sulla testa del Dio Shiva, che rappresenta la natura ciclica dell'Universo. Sullo sfondo, c'è lo "Shatkona" (Pentagramma a sei punte) che è il simbolo usato nello Yantra Hindu e rappresenta l'unione del Maschile e del Femminile. Rappresenta anche Shiva-Shakti, per alcuni (Shakti è l'Energia Femminile. Nota di Lunaria).
3) Parliamo della tua musica! Suoni un Black Metal Old Style, e penso che le persone fans di Bathory/Dark Funeral potrebbero apprezzare la tua musica!
Purvaja cerca di combinare elementi da tutte le possibili forme di Black Metal, aggiungendo un' "Aura Vedica", che si riflette nelle lyrics. Le band dalle quali prendo ispirazioni sono Rudra, Burzum, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Tsjuder, Urgehal, Dark Funeral, Setherial e altri.
4) è davvero interessante il tuo concept, basato sulla Grande Dea Kali! Penso che Lei sia la più bella Dea, e la Sua Figura, il Suo Significato, semplicemente meraviglioso: è Madre del Tempo e della Distruzione, Potente, Guerriera, è collegata alla Morte, al Sangue e alla Vita, persino alla Benedizione col Fiore di Loto...
Mi piacciono molto le mitologie antiche, e quella indiana è davvero interessante: ci sono un'infinità di Dei, miti, storie, e la Filosofia è piena di saggezza.
Puoi parlarci un po' del tuo concept, da cosa sei ispirato ecc.?
Inoltre penso anche che l'alfabeto indiano sia meraviglioso, forse il più bello, in assoluto: mi piacciono davvero molto i simboli delle lettere.
Qui in Europa nella tradizione esoterica, abbiamo il culto di Lilith, la Grande Madre della Ribellione e della Sessualità, contro il patriarcato giudaico. Ti piace Lilith, o altre Dee?
Sempre sulla mitologia dell'India, tempo fa ho letto alcune cose interessanti su Durga, Parvati e Adi Shakti.
Effettivamente, le radici della mia patria vanno così in profondità nei secoli dei secoli, che un'intera vita non è sufficiente per leggere e comprendere tutto ciò che è stato scritto. I nostri antenati hanno adorato il Cosmo nelle forme degli Dei fin dalle origini ancestrali.
La Dea Kali è la Personificazione del Tempo e della Morte, l'ultima Realtà (sì, è Colei che distruggendo permette la ri-creazione. Nota di Lunaria). Lei è la Madre dell'Universo, l'Una che genera tutta la vita e che la riassorbe, divorandola.
Sì, ho letto qualcosa sulle antiche culture delle altre terre. Alcune sono similari, cambiano solo i nomi con i quali si chiamano gli stessi concetti.
5) Una tua canzone si intitola "She, who devoured Raktabija".
Chi o cosa è Raktabija?
Raktabija era un demone che ottenne un beneficio dal Dio Brahma,
ovvero che in qualsiasi luogo cadesse una goccia del suo sangue per terra, da questa goccia ne sarebbe stato generato un suo clone (rakta = sangue, bija = seme; "Lui, dal quale ogni goccia di sangue è un seme). La canzone "She, who devoured Raktaija" contenuta nell'EP "Dark Goddess Divine" parla appunto di Kali che pone termine alla maledizione di Raktabija decapitandolo e bevendo tutto il suo sangue, senza lasciarne cadere una singola goccia a terra. Divorandolo completamente, ha salvato tutte le forme di vita preservandole dalla distruzione di Raktabija .
6) Ho visto anche il cover artwork di "Ghor Tapasya", una canzone molto particolare, perchè si chiude con un mantra. Per descrivere la copertina, a chi non l'avesse vista, diciamo che si vede una sorta di sacerdote, dall'aria emaciata e consunta, che eleva un teschio. Che significato ha e chi è un "Ghor Tapasya"?
Tra l'altro qui compaiono degli elementi sonori presi dalla musica tradizionale indù. Hai già pensato a sfruttare maggiormente questa particolarità, usando ancora più strumentazioni tipiche del tuo paese? E perchè no, dei Mantra?
Penso che sarebbe un discorso davvero interessante, per gli ascoltatori europei, soprattutto quelli che apprezzano un Black Metal interessante dal punto di vista concettuale. Alcune settimane fa, ho ascoltato per la prima volta nella mia vita alcuni Mantra e canti, dedicati a Kali, che è possibile sentire su YouTube. Li ho trovati molto potenti e intensi. Qui in Italia, abbiamo una band, gli Inchiuvatu (che in dialetto siciliano significa "Crocifisso"), che suona una forma molto originale di Black Metal, mixandolo a linguaggio e musica tipica Folk Siciliano...
"Ghor Tapasya" è l'unica track che ho realizzato per il full-lenght, al quale ho lavorato per molto tempo, e che ora ho intitolato "Aghori": parla di una setta di asceti che credono di essere l'incarnazione di Bhairva (una delle forme di Shiva) e sono alla ricerca della Luce nelle Tenebre, negando il dualismo.
Attualmente l'album ha questa tracklist:
"Aghori", "Ghor Tapasya", "Kapal" e "Nirvikalpa Samadi"
e sto ancora lavorando ad altre tracce, per ora ancora senza titolo. "Ghor Tapasya" è una forma severa di penitenza o mortificazione, praticata dalla setta Aghori.
Durante questo periodo, vivono in isolamento, completamente staccati dal mondo e dalle attività mondane. Non si occupano per niente delle loro condizioni fisiche e l'unica missione che hanno è quella di identificarsi con Shiva, per elevarsi spiritualmente, e liberarsi dal ciclo del Samsara (vita-morte-karma-rinascita)
Non hanno regole nel mangiare, dormire, nell'igiene o nell'indossare vestiti. Per loro non c'è differenza tra l'acqua della fogna e l'Acqua Sacra del Gange; non c'è differenza tra una dieta di frutta e vegetali e la carne marcia delle carogne. Sono al di là del bene e del male. Negano la natura dualista e tutto quello che esiste, e credono fortemente che tutto quello che ha creato Shiva, non può essere impuro.
Sì, usare strumenti tradizionali e mantra sarà sempre un obiettivo centrale nella musica di Purvaja. Sono felice di sapere che hai ascoltato e sentito l'aura dei mantra vedici.
(nota di Lunaria: sì, in particolare ne ho sentito uno davvero scatenato dedicato alla Dea Kali, che resta davvero in testa!)
Sì, sono anch'io influenzato da molte band Metal che usano la musica tradizionale, mixandola alle parti prettamente Metal. Li ammiro molto e li rispetto. (anch'io. Non c'è niente di più entusiasmante che scoprire una band interessante dal punto di vista concettuale e che ha il coraggio di proporre qualcosa di personale. Nota di Lunaria)
7) Hai già suonato live in India? E in Europa?
Da quando ho iniziato Purvaja come one man band, non ho mai avuto l'idea di esibirmi live. Tuttavia ho chiesto ad alcune persone in Svezia, Nepal e Sri Lanka di suonare nei loro paesi, ma ora come ora sono felice di essere un solo recording project.
8) Puoi parlarci della scena Metal India?
La scena Metal in India diventa sempre più grande.
Le band iniziano anche a suonare negli altri paesi, e in India suonano spesso molte band straniere. Molte persone si avvicinano a questa musica, e non la rendono commerciale, per non degradare la sua essenza.
9) Ok, concludi a tuo piacimento!

1) Hello and welcome here, in Italy! Let's introduce yourself to our italian readers!
Greetings Lunaria, Firstly thank you for showing interest and taking time to
interview ‘Purvaja’.
Purvaja (meaning: Primordial) is a one man vedic/black metal act from Hyderabad, India. With influences spawning from various genres of black metal and vedic metal, Purvaja combines the elements required to create music reflecting its lyrical themes
based on vedic culture, hindu philosophy, mythology and other related theologies.
2) Purvaja: what is the meaning of your monicker?
In your logo, you have draw the pitchfork, the "Om" symbol and the swastika. Can you explain the meaning of this evocative symbol you have draw?
Purvaja means Primordial. The main focus of Purvaja is to evoke the essence of what our ancestors have left behind for us which is slowly becoming oblivion in this so called modern world. Hence the name. The logo consists of the word 'Purvaja' written in the ancient Devanagari script. The pitchfork in between is called the Trishula (The holy trident representing creation, maintenance and destruction). On the top of it is the crescent moon often depicted on Lord Shiva's head representing the cyclical nature of the
universe. The background of the logo is the Shatkona (Pentagram) which is a symbol used in Hindu yantra that represents the union of both the male and feminine form. More specifically it is supposed to represent Shiva-Shakti.
3) Let's speak about your music! You play a Black Metal old style, and I suppose that people who love Bathory and Dark Funeral, will love your music too!

4) It's very interesting your concept, based upon the Great Goddess Kali! I think that She is the most Beautiful Goddess, and Her Figure, and Her meaning, is simply amazing: She is Mother of Time, Destroyer, Powerful, Eternal, Warrior, Death, Blood and Life, Blessing Lotus, too... I love so much ancient mithologies, and the mithology in India is really interesting: your coutry has got a lots of Great Gods, myths and stories, and the Philosophy is full of notions full of wisdom.
Can you speak about your concept, ideas and so on, about this? I also think that the Indian Alphabet is the most beautiful Alphabet of the world. I love so much those signs! Here in Europe, in the occult and esoteric world, we have the cult of Lilith, the Great Dark Mother of the Lust and Rebellion. Do you like Lilith, or others Goddesses?
From the religion of your country, I have read something about Durga, Parvati and Adi Shakti, too.
Indeed,the roots of my mother land go so deep that an entire lifetime is not enough to read it and understand it. Our ancerstors have worshipped the cosmos in the form of Gods since centuries.
Goddess Kali is an embodiment of time and death, the ultimate reality. She is the mother of the universe, the one who begets all life and as well the one who devours them. Yes I read about ancient cultures from other lands too. Most of them are similar, it
is only the tongue that differs.
5) One of your song is called "She, who devoured Raktaija". Can
you speak about this? Who or what is Raktaija?
Raktabija was a demon who gained a boon granted by Lord Brahma that whenever a drop of his blood fell on the ground, a clone of him would spawn at that spot (rakta=blood, bija=seed; "he for whom each drop of blood is a seed"). The song "She, who devoured Raktaija" from the EP 'Dark Goddess Divine' is about Goddess Kali ending the wrath of Raktabija by
beheading him and drinking all his blood without letting a single drop hit the ground,in the end completely devouring him to save all existence.
6) I have seen the cover artwork of "Ghor Tapasya", a very original song, with a mantra in the end. What is the meaning of this artwork? Who is a "Ghor Tapasya"?
Have you already think about the idea of using more typical instruments or mantras taken from folk and religion traditional music of your country? I think that it will be very interesting, for european listeners, hear something about this! Some weeks
ago, I have listen from the first time in my life some mantras and chants, uploaded on YouTube, dedicated to Kali. I have found them very mighty and catchy. Here in Italy, we have a Black Metal band, called Inchiuvatu (in southern italian dialect means "He
was crucifixed"), who play an original mix of Black Metal and typical Folk Music from Sicily...
Ghor Tapasya is the only track I have released from the upcoming full length that I have been working on for a very long time now entitled 'Aghori' which is about the sect of puritans who believe themselves to be an embodiment of Bhairva (A form of Shiva) and
search for the light being in darkness by negation of dualities. As of now the album consists of tracks entitled Aghori, Ghor Tapasya, Kapal and Nirvikalpa Samadi while I am
simultaneously working on a few untitled tracks too.
Ghor Tapasya is a very severe form of penance or self-mortification practised by aghori's. During this period, they live a shelter less and means less life in total isolation,

7) Have you already play live, in India? And in Europe?
Since I started Purvaja as a one man band I have never had plans to play live. However I have been asked by people from Sweden, Nepal and Srilanka to play in their country but as of now I am happy with this being a solo recording project.
8) Can you speak about the Metal Scene in India?
The metal scene in India is getting bigger. There are lots of good Indian bands coming up and playing in other countries, lots of foreign bands playing in India. There are many people who are being introduced to this form of music, so it is good as long as
they do not commercialize it too much which would eventually downgrade its essence.

Greetings Lunaria, Firstly thank you for showing interest and taking time to
interview ‘Purvaja’.
Purvaja (meaning: Primordial) is a one man vedic/black metal act from Hyderabad, India. With influences spawning from various genres of black metal and vedic metal, Purvaja combines the elements required to create music reflecting its lyrical themes
based on vedic culture, hindu philosophy, mythology and other related theologies.
2) Purvaja: what is the meaning of your monicker?
In your logo, you have draw the pitchfork, the "Om" symbol and the swastika. Can you explain the meaning of this evocative symbol you have draw?
Purvaja means Primordial. The main focus of Purvaja is to evoke the essence of what our ancestors have left behind for us which is slowly becoming oblivion in this so called modern world. Hence the name. The logo consists of the word 'Purvaja' written in the ancient Devanagari script. The pitchfork in between is called the Trishula (The holy trident representing creation, maintenance and destruction). On the top of it is the crescent moon often depicted on Lord Shiva's head representing the cyclical nature of the
universe. The background of the logo is the Shatkona (Pentagram) which is a symbol used in Hindu yantra that represents the union of both the male and feminine form. More specifically it is supposed to represent Shiva-Shakti.
3) Let's speak about your music! You play a Black Metal old style, and I suppose that people who love Bathory and Dark Funeral, will love your music too!
Purvaja tries to combine elements of all possible forms of black metal adding a vedic aura to it to reflect on its lyrical themes.
The bands major influences are Rudra, Burzum, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Tsjuder, Urgehal, Dark Funeral,Setherial and other related artists.
4) It's very interesting your concept, based upon the Great Goddess Kali! I think that She is the most Beautiful Goddess, and Her Figure, and Her meaning, is simply amazing: She is Mother of Time, Destroyer, Powerful, Eternal, Warrior, Death, Blood and Life, Blessing Lotus, too... I love so much ancient mithologies, and the mithology in India is really interesting: your coutry has got a lots of Great Gods, myths and stories, and the Philosophy is full of notions full of wisdom.
Can you speak about your concept, ideas and so on, about this? I also think that the Indian Alphabet is the most beautiful Alphabet of the world. I love so much those signs! Here in Europe, in the occult and esoteric world, we have the cult of Lilith, the Great Dark Mother of the Lust and Rebellion. Do you like Lilith, or others Goddesses?
From the religion of your country, I have read something about Durga, Parvati and Adi Shakti, too.
Indeed,the roots of my mother land go so deep that an entire lifetime is not enough to read it and understand it. Our ancerstors have worshipped the cosmos in the form of Gods since centuries.
Goddess Kali is an embodiment of time and death, the ultimate reality. She is the mother of the universe, the one who begets all life and as well the one who devours them. Yes I read about ancient cultures from other lands too. Most of them are similar, it
is only the tongue that differs.
5) One of your song is called "She, who devoured Raktaija". Can
you speak about this? Who or what is Raktaija?
Raktabija was a demon who gained a boon granted by Lord Brahma that whenever a drop of his blood fell on the ground, a clone of him would spawn at that spot (rakta=blood, bija=seed; "he for whom each drop of blood is a seed"). The song "She, who devoured Raktaija" from the EP 'Dark Goddess Divine' is about Goddess Kali ending the wrath of Raktabija by
beheading him and drinking all his blood without letting a single drop hit the ground,in the end completely devouring him to save all existence.
6) I have seen the cover artwork of "Ghor Tapasya", a very original song, with a mantra in the end. What is the meaning of this artwork? Who is a "Ghor Tapasya"?
Have you already think about the idea of using more typical instruments or mantras taken from folk and religion traditional music of your country? I think that it will be very interesting, for european listeners, hear something about this! Some weeks
ago, I have listen from the first time in my life some mantras and chants, uploaded on YouTube, dedicated to Kali. I have found them very mighty and catchy. Here in Italy, we have a Black Metal band, called Inchiuvatu (in southern italian dialect means "He
was crucifixed"), who play an original mix of Black Metal and typical Folk Music from Sicily...
Ghor Tapasya is the only track I have released from the upcoming full length that I have been working on for a very long time now entitled 'Aghori' which is about the sect of puritans who believe themselves to be an embodiment of Bhairva (A form of Shiva) and
search for the light being in darkness by negation of dualities. As of now the album consists of tracks entitled Aghori, Ghor Tapasya, Kapal and Nirvikalpa Samadi while I am
simultaneously working on a few untitled tracks too.
Ghor Tapasya is a very severe form of penance or self-mortification practised by aghori's. During this period, they live a shelter less and means less life in total isolation,
